Workshops sponsored by members of the Iron Furnace CWMA:

Workshops & classes are planned periodically. These can include field tours or classroom setting-type workshops that provide materials and information that help teachers and landowners make more informed decisions about managing invasive, non-native plants.

In March 2007, members of the IFCWMA organized a "Good Plants Gone Bad Workshop." The workshop was co-sponsored by the Ohio Invasive Plant Council and hosted by Ohio University Southern. We held three sessions during the day and had talks on basic invasive species information, local control efforts and how people can get involved to help with the problem. Seventy-five people attended this workshop.

In February 2009, members of the Iron Furnace CWMA held a workshop for land managers at the Oak Hill Public Library. The workshop covered the effects of invasive species, identifying invasive plants in Southern Ohio, preliminary results of the 2008 Invasive Plant Inventory Project, methods for controlling invasive species and a panel discussion with the experts. Pressed and fresh speicmens were also available for attendees to view. There were over 55 people in attendance.

The Lawrence Soil & Water Conservation District and the Lawrence County Farm Bureau (members of the IFCWMA) hosted a workshop for landowners about invasive plant species. The workshop covered identification of plant species and the problems invasive, non-native plants cause. Judy Dumke, another IFCWMA member, was the guest speaker. Other topics covered included testimonials from landowners and programs available to help with removal of invasive, non-native species. There were 32 people in attendance.
